Adult Ski Lessons

Looking to learn something new? It’s never too late to try Nordic Skiing! Big goals this winter? NSAA Adult Lessons are open to all adults, regardless of age! This is a great opportunity to guarantee that those New Year’s resolutions will last. Join Coach Carl for a six week lesson series that will go through the basics of cross-country skiing to get you out and enjoying the snow this winter. This lesson series is geared for beginners.

Meet Coach Carl

Carl is a well-known photographer, backcountry guide, outdoor educator, and coach. He has been skiing for over twenty years and has led numerous ski expeditions throughout Alaska. Carl loves teaching people the skills needed to enjoy themselves outside, from nordic skiing on our city’s amazing groomed trail system to traveling through remote wilderness areas.

Learn to Skate Ski

This year’s lessons will be offered in 2 sessions:

Beginning Ski Touring Workshop

Get off the groomed trails and explore! This class is designed for skiers who own modern, wide, waxless (scales) skis and want to develop the skills needed to wander through the woods and into the mountains. Class will focus on techniques, negotiating terrain, safety and gear selection.

Saturday and Sunday

February 18th and 19th, 10am-3pm

Locations: Russian Jack Springs Park, Far North Bicentennial Park

Cost: $200

Practice Locations

Hillside/Hilltop Trail System

Meet outdoors behind Service High School at the Little Gym. Some Saturdays, we meet at the Hilltop Trailhead, which is at the far north end of the Hilltop Ski Area parking lot, off Abbott Road. Check your Remind App before practice for updates.

Kincaid Park

All groups will meet outdoors in the area of Kincaid Park (9401 Raspberry Road). Some Saturdays, we meet at the Jodphur Trailhead at Kincaid, which is on Jodphur Road (West on Raspberry Rd to Sand Lake Rd, South on Sand Lake to Kincaid Rd, West on Kincaid to Jodphur, South on Jodphur to the Trailhead). Check your Remind App before practice for updates.

Russian Jack Park

Each skill level group will meet in a slightly different location near the Lidia Selkregg Chalet at Russian Jack Springs Park (ie, in the upper golf course, in front of the chalet, or near the sledding hill) – more details to come.  The Chalet is South of Debarr Road between Bragaw and Boniface, in Russian Jack Springs Park. Check your Remind App before practice for updates.

Registration

NSAA Membership is required for NSAA Adult Ski Lessons. ANY level of membership, from $35+, is appropriate. Your membership DIRECTLY supports the trails that you’ll be skiing on during the lessons, and helps NSAA continue to provide skiing opportunities for all Alaskans. If you are a current member who needs to renew their membership for the 2022-23 season, log into your member portal. Once you have renewed or started your membership, you can register for ski lessons through your member portal.

Registration begins October 1, 2022

Registration Cost for Adult Classic and Skate Ski Lessons: $240

Registration Cost for Beginner Ski Touring Workshop: $200

If you already have boots, bring those with you when you go to purchase skis.
