Let the snowmaking commence!

As of yesterday morning (November 25), the snowmaking crew flipped the switch and officially started the snowmaking process! So far, there are no real issues to report…whew! For this, we are forever grateful for our most awesome team of snowmaking volunteers who donate countless hours to ensure the equipment runs properly. The forecast is for a few days of cooler temperatures so our crew will be making snow around the clock and monitoring the progress. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that this next weather system will deliver the real deal in abundance, but appreciate the snowmaking option as a backup. We all know it’s saved a few race seasons already! Be sure to check the Kincaid Trail Report for the latest news on snowmaking.

Discover biathlon! This thrilling sport blends the challenge of cross-country skate skiing and rifle marksmanship into a unique and engaging sport for all ages. Kincaid Park’s world class biathlon range is the focal point of the sport in Alaska. We have year-round programs and activities at the range.

Classes are held monthly at Kincaid Park Biathlon Range, and cover safe rifle handling, care and use of a biathlon rifle, and basic biathlon technique. Biathlon Rifle Safety Classes are required to shoot at the Kincaid Park Biathlon Range.

Cost: $25 Individual, $30 Family REGISTER NOW!

NOTE: Minimum age for participation is 10 years old; however participants younger than 13 must attend with parent. If the parent is also getting their range safety certification, then Family should be the selected registration option, otherwise, Individual is appropriate.

SKAN 24 IS ON! Ski Kincaid All Night!

The SKAN (Ski Kincaid All Night) 24 is a lap-format race. You may race solo, as a quad relay or even as part of an 8-person team. If a 24-hour ski race is a tad too daunting, we also offer a 12-hour race and a 6-hour race. For our youngest skiers (ages 6-11), we offer a Junior Division: team of four for the 6-hour race only.

Register at Bib Pickup at REI, Thursday, 12-7pm
Register on Race Day at Kincaid, Saturday, 8-10am

But the SKAN isn’t just about skiing for a ridiculously long time… it’s about hanging out with friends, family and fellow competitors, it’s about camaraderie and competition, testing the limits of your body (and mind), eating a whole lot of BBQ & pancakes, winning raffle prizes (raffle every few hours all day and all night), hanging out in the warming tents, and enjoying fabulous springtime skiing. Not to mention the dance parties in the wax bunker, cheering for your fellow racers, skiing one-way trails backwards, and having something to look forward to every time you enter the stadium after a lap.

Is it hard? Definitely. Is it worth it? Without a doubt. Will you want to do it year after year because you had SO MUCH FUN? We promise. REGISTER TODAY!
