Dear NSAA Members,
The Nordic Skiing Association has recently learned about a potential large construction project at the Anchorage International Airport. The NSAA Board of Directors endeavors to keep our membership informed of any issues that may affect outdoor recreation generally, and Nordic skiing specifically, in our community.
The project to develop air cargo facilities would be located on the north side of Raspberry Road directly across from Serenity Circle, Serenity Drive, Lowell Circle and Tanaina Drive and east of the Little Campbell Lake access road in Kincaid Park. This three-year construction project would include development of cargo jet fueling stations, aircraft maintenance facilities and hangars.
A land lease application has been submitted to the airport and as such, the public may comment on the proposed lease. Comments must be received on or before 5:00PM on December 9, 2020.
Comments can be submitted to:
Attn: Teresa Ressler, Land Manager
Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport PO Box 196960
Anchorage, AK 99519-6960

Due to the project’s proximity to Kincaid Park, the Nordic Skiing Association of Anchorage felt that members may be interested in this project and may want to submit comments.
Concerns that have been expressed to NSAA include a desire for an extension to the comment period, more study on the impact to the local environment (traffic, noise, smell, etc.) and more robust outreach to stakeholders and the local community. Currently, public notices were only posted at the North and South terminals between the dates of November 10th and November 30th.
The Sand Lake Community Council is also hosting a Special Meeting about this project on Monday, December 7th at 6pm. Visit their facebook page for more information: https://www.facebook.com/SandLakeCommunityCouncil/
